Every physician specialty, MD and DO.
The whole contract.A ten‑minute read.
Every clause that touches your pay, your time or your exit, set down in plain English and turned into the ask we would make.
Here is how one clause becomes one clear recommendation.
1Your contract, as written
4.2Productivity Compensation. In addition to the Base Compensation, and subject to Section 4.6, Physician shall be eligible to receive, for each Work Relative Value Unit (“wRVU”) personally performed in excess of eight thousand two hundred (8,200) wRVUs in any Contract Year, the sum of Fifty-Eight Dollars ($58.00), as such wRVUs are calculated by Employer in its reasonable discretion and reconciled quarterly in arrears. No Productivity Compensation shall accrue in respect of wRVUs at or below such threshold.
2We pull out what matters and explain it
Our findingHarborline’s own offer letter projects 7,600 wRVUs for year one. On its numbers, year one pays the guarantee alone.
3Then we tell you what to ask for
Set the year‑one threshold at 7,400 wRVUs.
$58 × the 200 wRVUs from 7,400 to 7,600 is $11,600; × the 800 from 7,400 to 8,200 is $46,400.

The question you didn’t askis the one that costs you.
All MD and DO specialties. For each kind of contract, the question we would ask first, and the short answer we usually find.

01Residents & fellows
If they let you go without cause, do you still repay the signing bonus?
Often, yes. Many repayment clauses count only the months you stayed, not who ended the job, so the bill can follow you out the door.
$40,000Signing bonus, repaid pro rata before month 36. Leave at month 18 and about $20,000 goes back.Sample report · fictional

02Hospital & group employed
Could you hit every number they projected and still earn no bonus?
Yes, and it happens. The offer letter projects your volume and the contract sets the wRVU bar for bonus pay. Nothing makes the two agree, and if the bar is higher, year one pays base and nothing more.

03Locums & per-diem
If the hospital offers you a permanent job, are you free to take it?
Often not, for a year or two. Many agency agreements bar you from going direct to a facility you covered unless someone pays the agency a placement fee.
-
04Academic & partnership track
If you leave before you’ve vested, do you get your buy-in back?
Only if the contract says so. Buy-ins are often paid ahead of vesting, so for years you have put in more than you own, and many contracts are silent on refunds.
$150,000Buy-in, paid $50,000 a year from year three. The contract does not say what comes back if Dr. Whitcombe leaves before year six.Sample report · fictional

05Multi-state
Cover a clinic for two weeks, and is that town now inside your non‑compete?
It can be. Many radius clauses run from every site you worked at, not just your main one, so each stretch of cover can widen the map, across state lines too.
15milesFrom any Harborline site worked at in the last 12 months, for 24 months. A few weeks covering a clinic counts.Sample report · fictional
Answers describe what we often see, not what every contract says. Figures come from our sample report: Dr. Clara Whitcombe and Harborline Medical Group are fictional, and not every report covers every one of these.
